The North Star News Prize recognizes journalists, media makers and communications professionals of color who have made a significant contribution to the public's understanding of the struggle for social justice.

Ellis Cose
Contributing Editor and Columnist, Newsweek magazine
Ellis Cose is a contributing editor and columnist for Newsweek magazine, as well as an independent radio producer and author. His program Against the Odds, a multimedia documentary series, profiles individuals who have overcome tremendous adversity.
Rinku Sen
President and Executive Director, Applied Research
Rinku Sen is the President and Executive Director of the Applied Research Center (ARC) and Publisher of ColorLines magazine. A leading figure in the racial justice movement, Rinku has positioned ARC as the home for media and activism on racial justice. She has extensive practical experience on the ground, with expertise in race, feminism, immigration and economic justice.
The North Star News Prize features a roundtable conversation with senior media professionals. The discussion encourages critical and independent thinking politics, culture, and the challenge of achieving social justice in the age of consolidated media.
