Late this spring, North Star Fund issued travel grants that allowed groups to send representatives from New York City's vibrant social justice movement to the U.S. Social Forum held in Detroit. According to the Social Forum's website, "[The Social Forum] is not a conference but it is a space to come up with the peoples' solutions to the economic and ecological crisis."

North Star Fund's travel grants allowed more than 200 people to attend from the following groups:

  • Adhikaar for Human Rights and Social Justice
  • Community Voices Heard
  • DAMAYAN Migrant Workers Association
  • Domestic Workers United
  • Families for Freedom
  • Families United for Racial and Economic Equality
  • La Union
  • Make the Road NY
  • Mothers on the Move
  • Movement for Justice in El Barrio
  • New Immigrant Community Empowerment
  • People's Production House
  • Picture the Homeless
